Want to log off and get away from the mainland for a while? Iniö is an authentic archipelago destination in the best possible way — a place where the local community is strong, traditions are still part of everyday life, and the pace feels genuinely different from anything on the mainland.

Built in the early 1800s, the Iniö church is known for its historic architecture. Still an important gathering place for the local community, the church reflects the calm and timeless character of archipelago life.

Surrounded by the Archipelago Sea, Iniö offers scenic ferry journeys, quiet villages, coastal walks and unspoiled nature. The village of Söderby is one of the best-kept photo spots in the outer Turku Archipelago — red boathouses along the harbour, beautiful waters behind them, nobody rushing anywhere. In summer, the island comes alive through local traditions such as the midsummer dance and other village dances, giving visitors a glimpse of the active island community.
Iniö is especially well-suited for travellers looking for calm, old-school island culture and off-the-beaten-path experiences in the Finnish archipelago. The free ferry from Kustavi runs year-round with no reservation needed, making Iniö one of the most accessible outer archipelago destinations.
The Iniö church, built between 1797 and 1800, is the oldest landmark on the island and still the heart of the village. It is one of the finest examples of traditional archipelago church architecture in the region and worth more than a passing glance.

By public transport
Iniö is reached by free public ferry from Kustavi, no reservation needed. Kustavi is accessible by Matkahuolto bus from Turku. Note that the ferry landing is some distance from Iniö village, so a bicycle or car is strongly recommended.
By car
If you're visiting Iniö on its own, the recommended route is via Kustavi. All ferries on this route are free of charge, and no booking is needed — except during night hours, when departures marked with an asterisk (*) in the timetable require advance notification.
The ferry from Kustavi to Iniö runs 5–8 times a day and takes about 25 minutes. Once on the island, two smaller ferries connect the islands within Iniö itself: one runs whenever there is a car waiting, the other very frequently throughout the day. Night crossings on these may also require advance notice if marked with an asterisk.
If you're combining Iniö with a visit to Houtskär, note that the ferry between the two islands is not free and requires advance booking. It also only operates when the Archipelago Trail is open, typically from spring to autumn.
